About St. Catherine of Alexandria Coptic Orthodox Community Pearland
The Coptic Orthodox community in Pearland, Texas was officially established on August 11, 2018 by His Grace Bishop Youssef and was blessed to be named after Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
On May 26, 2021, the community was able to purchase a 5 acre property in the heart of Pearland to call home and on June 2, 2021 was blessed to have His Grace Bishop Gregory pray the inaugural Thanksgiving prayer on the future church site.
St. Catherine of Alexandria Coptic Community belongs to the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States which is shepherded by His Grace Bishop Youssef and includes all of the Coptic Orthodox churches in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.
The Copts (Coptic Orthodox Christians) adhere to the Orthodox faith that was established in Alexandria, Egypt by St. Mark the Evangelist around the year 43 A.D. The Orthodox faith is summarized by the Nicene Creed which was authored by St. Athanasius who defended Jesus Christ’s divinity at the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D.
